Once you have hired your cleaning company, we would like to give you a few tips here on how to prepare optimally for the move-out cleaning. You too will certainly have looked at the price when choosing your cleaning company. These prices are calculated very tightly and there is not much margin left for the company. It is therefore all the better if you prepare your apartment so that the cleaning company can work quickly. That is why we have put together a small checklist for you here.
Dispose of waste
Make sure the apartment is as free of rubbish and waste as possible. The cleaning company will certainly be accommodating if there are still things lying around, but that does not actually fall within its scope of work. Check all the drawers in the kitchen and in the wet rooms to make sure they are empty. Things may also be forgotten on high shelves. It is worth taking a quick look there.
Defrost the fridge
When you leave the apartment after the move, the fridge is often forgotten. Clear everything out of the fridge. By the time the cleaning company arrives, the fridge should ideally be defrosted. Defrosting the freezer compartment often takes quite a while. If you have already done this, the cleaning crew can start cleaning straight away.
Avoid excessive dirt
As a rule, a cleaning company comes by for a quote to view the apartment. The price quoted corresponds to the degree of soiling the company encountered during the viewing. All too often, people let themselves go a little in the run-up to the move and no longer keep everything quite as tidy. For the sake of fairness towards the cleaning company, and so that you definitely avoid any discussions, we recommend carrying on exactly as before.
Remove limescale stains
If limescale has built up in your toilet over time, you can remove it without effort a few days beforehand, each time overnight, using biodegradable products. If the company has to remove it in a single day, it cannot avoid using very aggressive products that are very harmful to our drinking water and to nature. If you want to do this entirely with household remedies, you can pour one or two cups of vinegar into the toilet. If you add two or three tablespoons of baking soda, it becomes even more effective.
Handover of keys
So that the cleaning company can start the move-out cleaning immediately, you should communicate the handover of keys clearly. The easiest way is always to leave the key somewhere ready, e.g. in the letterbox. Since the apartment is usually empty, that is not a big risk either. If you do not want that, then it is very important that you arrive on time for the key handover so that no unnecessary waiting time arises for the cleaning company.
Delicate surfaces
You have to face the facts: even if you hire a cleaning company for your move-out cleaning, that does not necessarily mean that long-standing and experienced professionals are cleaning in your apartment. Again and again, people become self-employed or new workers are hired. If you know that certain surfaces in your apartment are delicate, you should point this out to the cleaning company. This makes particular sense with marble. If it is cleaned with descaler, the surface can be completely destroyed. With little effort, you save yourself a lot of trouble.
Document damage
Inspect your apartment beforehand and make a note of any damage that already exists. Point this damage out to the cleaning company. During cleaning, surfaces in your apartment can always be damaged. If these are discovered at the handover, it can lead to unpleasant situations because it is often one person's word against another's. If you have made the company aware of existing damage, such sources of conflict can be avoided.
Re-cleaning
Do not plan too tightly if possible. It can always happen that the landlord finds some defects and a re-cleaning becomes necessary. Make sure that someone from the cleaning company is present at the handover. Minor defects can be remedied immediately. If a re-cleaning should actually become necessary, however, it is an advantage if the next tenant does not already want to move in the following day.
